A BIT ABOUT ME
With a love for bright, expressive color, and a bold illustration style, Melanie stands out among her peers. After studying illustration at the College for Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit, Michigan, Melanie branched out into communication design. She started taking on freelance design projects that consisted of brand identity and strategy, along with packaging design and social media content creation.
While working on design projects, Melanie pushes her illustration work conceptually and technically. Melanie's Russian Dolls are a recurring subject in her illustration work. Her Russian Dolls (or matryoshkas) explore women's beauty standards, their historical role as mothers/caretakers, and the expression of women's sexuality. Animals as subjects are also a recurring theme, where anatomy, historical symbolism, and their visual identity takes on a contemporary style.
